Syria's Assad offers vote, tanks shell rebel areas

AMMAN/BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad offered on Wednesday to hold multi-party elections within four months, while his troops assaulted city districts held by rebels trying to oust him.
